(It clatters its way through sounding like everything from Joy Division to hardcore, which is exactly the kind of base-covering people get excited by when they realize it’s been a while since they’ve listened to this sort of thing.)

Can someone please start a blog called Reasonably Dissecting Nitsuh Abebe’s Reasonable Dissections (RD-NARD)? Like Pitchfork Reviews Reviews, but with a point and an overarching intellectual framework? (It’s ok, PRR, we love you still, kinda)

Cos this - about Iceage - is really ‘on point’ without necessarily meaning a whole lot. Of course it’s meant to be parenthetical, and yet it describes exactly how I feel about records sometimes - but what does it say about why the band seems comparatively uninteresting to me, and how does it address Mark Richardson’s question about “originality”? I’m not saying it has to go there, but those are places it could go.

(This is similar to how I feel regarding the other remark about Liturgy, who don’t particularly interest me either, but I gravitate towards agreeing with those who do like the band)
